Volunteer Types
INSTRUCTOR
- Read through and practice the workshop plan before event.
- Arrive at workshop 30 minutes early to set up.
- Facilitate/Instruct lesson to attendees.
- Serve as a role model to future technology leaders.
- Promote interest & enrollment in TechShop within personal networks.
- Ensure TechGirlz Attendee Survey is completed by each participant at the end of the workshop.
- Complete the Instructor Workshop Plan Evaluation form.
TEACHING ASSISTANT
- Assist the Instructor with set-up, icebreakers, brain break activities.
- Read through and practice the workshop plan before event.
- Promote interest & enrollment in TechShop within personal networks.
- Assist attendees with any questions, technical issues, debugging.
- Take attendance and report back to TechGirlz.
OUTREACH EVENTS
Depending on the event:
- Receive and return materials needed for the event (exchange in-person or via mail).
- Hand out flyers and answer questions about volunteering with us.
- Hand out flyers and answer questions about our workshops.
- Help with/demonstrate quick, table activities with the girls such as identifying parts inside a computer, or other activity.
CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT
Help keep our workshops up to date. Volunteer will read through/test the workshop plan at home and update curriculum (workshop plan and slides) to fix broken links, add details and make corrections. Volunteer will be working with TechGirlz templates and guidelines.
Volunteer for one of the following roles:
- Updates: Update workshop plan and slides with updated links, resources, software or instructions in the workshop plan and slides. (2-8+ hours)
- Review: Review and test updated/new workshops. Test software tools and activities. (2-4 hours)
- Proofread: Check spelling, grammar, links and references. Compare workshop plan and slides against a checklist to ensure completeness and accuracy for publication. (1-3 hours)
OTHER
This section will have many different types of opportunities that may include, but are not limited to:
- Help create marketing materials.
- Write a blog post.
- Organize a camp.
- Connect us with schools, companies, and organizations.
