Steve Rossman, a TechGirlz trustee, is a strong advocate for gender equality in tech. When Steve’s wife, Tracey Welson-Rossman, founded TechGirlz in 2010, Steve knew he wanted to get involved and offer support.
“I was happy to help in whatever capacity I could,” Steve says.
Steve’s lends his expertise in accounting to oversee financial matters for TechGirlz. He’s a partner at a CPA firm, where he performs tax services, as well as business and financial planning for individuals and closely held businesses.
Though Steve isn’t a technologist by profession, he uses technology at work on a daily basis. He’s well-versed in tax software, accounting software, document management software, and Paperless Solutions. Steve also has CNA (Certified Network Administrator) certification.
Steve’s children inspire him to get hands-on with technology. “They grew up with [tech], and it was second nature for them,” he explains. Lately, he’s become interested in how the Internet of Things (IoT) works and hopes to develop an app for the IoT.
Once Steve got involved with TechGirlz, he was heartened to see so many girls becoming confident technology users.
“It’s a very gratifying experience, as you get to see on a first-hand level how excited the girls are about technology and also how their parents appreciate the fact that their daughters are learning and having fun,” Steve says.
Steve speaks highly of TechGirlz’ volunteer instructors, camp counselors, and everyone else involved with the organization.
“Everyone that I’ve met at TechGirlz events gives it their all and is focused on helping the girls,” he notes.
Steve explains that anyone, anywhere can share our curriculum through the TechShopz in a Box™ program. By helping girls explore the possibilities of technology, we can help close the gender gap in tech.
“TechGirlz is a great organization, and any young ladies who are on the fence about technology should attend an event,” Steve says.
We thank Steve for his service to TechGirlz and for being a true ally!
