In this camp, students will explore three different facets of science: Environmental Science, Health Sciences and Medical Sciences. Students will find the source of water pollution with a tool called ArcGIS and create a Story Map describing the pollution. They will dive into biology and diseases to investigate how epidemics spread, and will learn how to use tech tools like StarLogo Nova to determine how to slow the spread. Participants will also learn how to solve a genetic mystery by mining online databases for genetic changes that can cause medical symptoms.
Topics Used:
Day 1: Investigating Water Pollution Sources Using ArcGIS Online
Day 2: Using Computer Simulations to Solve Complex Problems
Day 3: Solving Genetic Mysteries with Online Tools and Family Histories
Students will need access to a computer (Chromebooks are acceptable) and internet access.
Please create free accounts for ArcGIS Online, StarLogo Nova, Progeny Genetics and Online Mendelian Inheritance in Man
This camp is set up as a virtual camp, but can be conducted in-person as well.
