Downers Grove, IL (July 11, 2020) – TechGirlz, a nonprofit program of Creating IT Futures, announced today it has been named a “2020 Top-Rated Nonprofit” by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews of charities and nonprofits.

TechGirlz provides free technology workshops for middle school girls in communities across the country, resulting in 25,000 girls served to date.

“We are honored to be named a 2020 Top-Rated Nonprofit for the fourth year in a row,” says Amy Cliett, TechGirlz Director. “We are proud of our accomplishments this year, including our increased national reach during the pandemic.”

The Top-Rated Nonprofit Award is based on the rating and number of reviews that TechGirlz received from volunteers, donors and parents. One of our parent reviewers expressed her gratitude writing, “I am so grateful to TechGirlz for welcoming my daughter into a world where technology and coding have become fun, accessible, and cool!”

Two of our teen volunteers and Teen Advisory Board members shared their heartfelt experience regarding how TechGirlz has helped with their own journey as young women in technology.

Ameya Rao: “I have been volunteering with TechGirlz for over a year now and I’m so proud to be a part of this organization. As a girl aspiring to pursue a career in tech, I know the supply of obstacles for a woman in STEM is seemingly inexhaustible. But TechGirlz is, without a doubt, making an impact on hundreds and hundreds of young girls by creating the foundation and empowering girls to be confident in their abilities and passions.”

Puneetha Mallarapu: “This is such an amazing nonprofit! I am part of the Teen Advisory Board for TechGirlz and in middle [school] went to the workshops. I learned so many important skills and met so many amazing women in STEM. It made me realize how women are just as capable to work in tech and made me want to make a difference.”

“TechGirlz is a great example of a nonprofit [program] making a real difference in their community,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, “Their award is well-deserved recognition not only of their work, but the tremendous support they receive, as shown by the many outstanding reviews they have received from people who have direct experience working with TechGirlz.”

GreatNonprofits is the leading website where people share stories about their personal experiences on more than 1.6 million charities and nonprofits. The GreatNonprofits Top-Rated Awards are the only awards for nonprofits determined by those who have direct experience with the charities – as donors, volunteers and recipients of aid.
