Award based on Community Recommendations
Downers Grove, IL (November 1, 2021) – TechGirlz, a nonprofit program of Creating IT Futures, announced today it has been named a “2021 Top-Rated Nonprofit” by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user reviews of charities and nonprofits.
TechGirlz provides free technology workshops for middle school girls in communities across the country, resulting in over 32,000 girls served to date.
“We are honored to be named a Top-Rated Nonprofit for the fifth year in a row,” says Amy Cliett, TechGirlz Director. “We are proud of our accomplishments this year, despite the evolving challenges of the pandemic.”
The Top-Rated Nonprofit Award is based on the rating and number of reviews that TechGirlz received from volunteers, donors and aid recipients. One of our parent reviewers expressed her gratitude writing, “Techgirlz allowed my daughter to see all of us have strengths that our community and world can benefit from. We all have interests that can be channeled; it is up to us to find the paths.”
A parent of one of our teen volunteers and Teen Advisory Board (TAB) members shared their heartfelt experience regarding how TechGirlz has helped with their daughter, Trisha’s, own journey as young women in technology.
“As a parent of a TA and lead instructor and TAB member, I’m a witness to all the awesome work TechGirlz is doing to advocate an interest in Tech/ Technology for young girls. It provides a non intimidating environment, and a community which is supportive, kind, helpful and welcoming. There are no barriers or walls to contribute as well. The platform serves to foster leadership and service whilst learning and growing.”
Trisha responded with her own sincere review stating, “Techgirlz not only embraces [its] mission and serves to inspire young girls to explore possibilities in tech but in that process fosters a community where lifelong passions are developed. As a TA, a TAB member and a lead instructor, the intangible skills I learnt along the way is invaluable. Not only is the organization an enabler for future leaders but serves all minorities and gives voice to all types of personalities – especially the shy voices who normally would not try tech simply because there are less girls or no girls. I get to interact with a very professional, kind, encouraging community, volunteering, serving while growing. Meeting other like minded students across the country, hosting events, monthly board meetings, notification of technology events around the area and even getting sponsored, setting goals, writing curriculum proposals to events are all some of the activities I’m involved. Techgirl[z] is also agile, embracing virtual tools during the pandemic [seamlessly], and continues to provide the same opportunities as before.”
“TechGirlz is a great example of a nonprofit making a real difference in their community,” said Perla Ni, CEO of GreatNonprofits, “Their award is well-deserved recognition not only of their work, but the tremendous support they receive, as shown by the many outstanding reviews they have received from people who have direct experience working with TechGirlz.”
